In a recent YouTube video, Jerry from the popular channel “JerryRigEverything” set out to test the bullet resistance of the much-hyped Tesla Cybertruck. Jerry’s goal was to scientifically determine how bullet-resistant the Cybertruck truly is, using a range of ammunition from small .22 caliber bullets to a formidable .50 caliber rifle.
The Background of the Testing
The test began on a snowy day, when Jerry sterilized the shooting surface with a burn test before getting into the actual shooting. In a twist to the experiment, Ridge, a wallet company, sponsored the video. For every bullet that hit within a designated red square on the Cybertruck, Ridge pledged to donate $1,000 to Jerry’s off-road wheelchair company, “Not A Wheelchair.”
The First Test
Jerry started with a Glock 19, a 9mm handgun. The Cybertruck’s stainless steel exterior proved resilient, with no cracking or penetration from the 9mm bullets. Each impact left a warm divot, but the integrity of the truck remained intact. A highlight was when a Damascus steel wallet, used as a target, successfully caught a bullet, showing its durability.
Landed Shots
After Jerry’s five successful shots, resulting in $5,000 for his charity, it was Riley’s turn. Riley, the chief operations officer at “Not A Wheelchair,” also managed to land all five shots within the red square.
The Continued Streak
His precision shooting added another $5,000 to the donation tally. Following Riley, Jacom, a skilled stainless steel welder, took his turn and continued the streak of accuracy, bringing the total potential donation to $15,000.
Left Minor Divots
Next, they escalated the challenge by using faster and more powerful ammunition. A .22 caliber bullet, which travels at 1,000 feet per second, only left minor divots and did not penetrate the Cybertruck’s door.
The Punch Through the Door
However, a .17 caliber bullet, moving at 2,500 feet per second, managed to punch through the door panel, though it did not exit the other side.
The Big Test
The real test came with the AR-15 rifle, firing a .223 caliber bullet. This ammunition, moving at 3,200 feet per second, easily penetrated both sides of the door.
The Dramatic Punch
They then turned to the most formidable challenge: the .50 caliber bullet. This massive round, despite being slower at 2,900 feet per second compared to the .223, carried immense force.
When fired, the .50 caliber bullet dramatically punctured the Cybertruck’s door, leaving a sizable hole and visibly damaging the interior. Interestingly, the bullet didn’t shatter the glass, which was a concern given the force of the impact.
Good Performance
Jerry shared that the Cybertruck’s windows are not bulletproof, contrary to some misconceptions. He concluded the video by sharing his satisfaction with Cybertruck’s performance.
